On gray, rainy afternoons, I still find myself thinking about warm ocean breezes, slow mornings on a balcony, and that feeling of having nowhere to be except exactly where you are.
Our 7-night Eastern Caribbean cruise on the Norwegian Escape this past June was one of those trips that lingers. Not because everything was perfect, but because it struck a really good balance between adventure, rest, and time together.
This cruise was a mix of family time, moments to ourselves, and a few unforgettable experiences that made the week feel special in a way only cruising can.
The Norwegian Escape
The Norwegian Escape felt lively without being overwhelming. Once we got our bearings, it was easy to move around the ship and find spots that fit whatever mood we were in.
There was always something happening — music, shows, activities — but it never felt chaotic. By the end of the week, everything felt familiar in the best way.

Our Balcony Room
We had a balcony stateroom, and it quickly became one of my favorite parts of the trip.
It was nice having a private place to step outside, especially in the mornings and evenings. Some of my favorite moments were the simplest ones — coffee on the balcony, watching us pull into port, or winding down after a long day.
The room itself was comfortable and practical, with enough storage to keep things organized for the week. Having that little bit of extra space made a difference, especially with how full the days could be.

Entertainment We Actually Enjoyed
There were so many different entertainment options on board — from game shows to an escape room (tabletop experience), to full Broadway-style productions.
As the week went on, my daughter and I found ourselves circling activities in our daily itineraries because we were having so much fun and didn’t want to miss anything.
A few highlights:
- Choir of Man – If your cruise offers this show, I highly recommend it. It’s fun, high-energy, and surprisingly good. My daughter loved it so much we went back a second time.
- Deal or No Deal (in the atrium) – You can buy cards and play along from your seat, even if you’re not the one on stage. Fun fact – I didn’t end up winning anything. But one time I was ONE NUMBER AWAY from being called up. Oh well – it was still a lot of fun to play along and cheer on the contestant.
- Game shows in the main theater – These ended up being some of the funniest, most relaxed parts of the trip.
- Bamboozled escape room (tabletop experience)– A fun way to spend a quieter afternoon. This technically isn’t an escape room, but there are multiple tables so you can be seated with your group or with other people on the cruise. We met new people and had a lot of fun working together to try and solve the puzzles.

Food Highlights
Food is always a big part of cruising, and I was not disappointed with the options on this trip.
Norwegian Escape includes a mix of complimentary dining and specialty restaurants. We mostly stuck with complimentary options but used our two included specialty dining credits for a couple of standout meals.
Specialty Dining
There are quite a few specialty dining restaurants on the Norwegian Escape. They cost extra and you usually need a reservation. Our cruise package came with two specialty dining credits per person. There are a lot of options and amazing restaurants – it was hard to narrow it down. We chose the following and were NOT disappointed.
Moderno Churrascaria (Brazilian steakhouse)
This felt like a full experience, not just dinner. There’s an incredible salad bar to start, and then servers come around with different cuts of meat right to your table. You have a coaster that is green on one side (which means to keep coming around with more food!), and the other side is red, which means you need a break.
My nephew said it was the best steak he’s ever had, and I’m still thinking about the grilled pineapple.
Food Republic (Asian Fusion)
This was a quieter, more relaxed meal but just as memorable. It’s designed for sharing, which made it fun. We had Thai chicken wraps, pad thai, steak salad, and dessert — everything was so good.
Complimentary Favorites
O’Sheehan’s Pub (Breakfast)
This became one of our go-to spots. Quick, casual, and perfect for port mornings. O’Sheehan’s is open 24 hours a day, but in the evening it can get pretty crowded. I loved going there for a delicious, quiet breakfast.
American Diner
Fun diner option with great burgers. Easy lunch spot.
Main Dining Rooms
There are three main dining rooms, all with the same menu but slightly different vibes. We had two larger group dinners in the Manhattan Room and did walk-ins at Taste and Savor on other nights with no issue.
The food was consistently good — and I definitely got into the habit of having dessert every night.

Cruise Itinerary
The Norwegian Escape has different itineraries and sailings. Here’s the full itinerary from our 7-night sailing:
- Day 1: Depart from Miami, Florida
- Day 2: Sea Day
- Day 3: Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic
- Day 4: St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands
- Day 5: Tortola, British Virgin Islands
- Day 6: Great Stirrup Cay (Norwegian’s private island — we missed this stop due to weather)
- Day 7: Sea Day
- Day 8: Return to Miami
Two experiences from this trip deserve their own posts (coming soon):
- Champagne snorkeling in St. Thomas
- Zip lining in Tortola

A Few Things We Didn’t Love
No trip is perfect, and there were a couple of things worth noting:
- The main pool deck could get really crowded, and it wasn’t always easy to find a chair. No one under age 18 was allowed in the main pool, and the nearby kids pool didn’t have chairs near it.
- We missed our stop at Great Stirrup Cay due to rough swells and tender boats not being able to run. This was a big disappointment at the time. That said, Norwegian has since completed a dock at their private island, so this shouldn’t be as much of an issue going forward.
Final Thoughts
I really enjoyed our cruise and I would go again in a heartbeat. It was fun and we made great memories. There was always something to do, but also plenty of space to slow down when we wanted to.
If you’re thinking about a cruise — especially one with friends, coworkers, or extended family — this kind of trip makes it really easy to find that balance between together time and downtime.
